INDIAN ETHNIC JEWELRY

Over centuries, India has experienced several empires in its land. With the sovereignty of various dynasties, a broad spectrum of aesthetic designs emerged that reflected the cultural diversity, taste of denizens, fantastic splendour and artistry of primeval India.

Each distinct style contains its own characteristic that has deciphered and explained history of different dynasties. Available ornaments were made of gold, silver, ivory, beads, pottery and precious stones like rubies, corals, sapphires and crystals.

Types of ornaments were Crowns, Hansali (circular neck ornament), Rani-Haar (long necklace), Necklaces , Pendants , Earrings Earrings ,Finger rings , Tops, Nose-rings, Thumb rings, Bangles , Kadas, Toe rings, Bracelets , Kadandias, Armlets, Armbands, Chains, Tikas, Borlas, Dots, Nose pins, Nath chains (worn with nose ring), Waist-belts, Ear chains, Anklets. Gradually, with the progression of time, sophisticated approach emerged that enhanced various types of intricate and classic design.
Indian jewelry by far is not restricted to single metal or material; the extensive list has included different materials such as glass, white metals alloys with fabric, plastics, rice, Resin and many more.

From the ancient past, the penchant for comprehensive variety of precious jewelry and adorning the appearance has been the commonplace trait and dexterity of jewelry connoisseurs. Embellishing with luxurious jewelry in wedding as well as some special social ceremonies is an integral part of respectable Indian traditions

India is famous for traditional handcrafted ethnic jewelry.  There are different types of ethnic jewelrysuch as ‘Kundan’ (where gold foil is used in settings), ‘Jadoo’ (stone setting), ‘Meena’ (enamelling) and ‘Lac jewelry’ (wax filled jewelry).



A combination of one or more of these types can also be used to produce highly individual unusual pieces.
